CLASS OF 2017 NEWSLETTER ISSUE #5 May 9, 2017
*If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. Rigo-Witt-in the ASB room ((909) 591-3902 ext: 4774), your Class Advisors - Mrs. Deming or Mr. Myers. You may also contact your Senior Class President Luis Vazquez.
ACCOUNTS TO BE PAID IN FULL
Make sure you are on top of your financial accounts… if money is owed to the school (ASB, athletics, library, etc.) you may be pulled from graduation practice. This includes any owed fees to the cafeteria.
JOSTENS CAP AND GOWN
JOSTENS is the only approved vendor to order your cap and gown from. It has come to our attention that some gowns are being ordered randomly online and the wrong color, fabric, etc has been received. If you have not ordered your cap & gown please be sure to contact Jostens at www.jostens.com. All orders should have been placed by April 28. If you have not ordered your gown you need to call 1-800 JOSTENS immediately. You have been hearing about gown orders since October. You must have a gown ordered!
PICTURES AT ARENA
Graduates will be able to order “handshake” and panoramic pictures directly from Lifetouch. Order forms will be available during graduation practices. Remember that all practices are mandatory!
If you have signed up with Jostens for the borrow program, you will need to return the gown, cap, medallion, tassel and diploma cover before you leave the tunnel to meet friends and family after graduation. You will not be able to take pictures in your gown after the ceremony. This is one of the conditions of the borrow program. The borrow contract states that the gown to be returned when diplomas are picked up; however, Jostens believed that we gave out diplomas right after the ceremony. This is incorrect. You must return them before you leave the arena.
Your high school graduation is a ceremony steeped in tradition. Some of the traditions include the wearing of graduation medallions for all seniors and stoles and cords for certain accolades. It is about being united with your class one last time. Keep in mind that we are very traditional with what you are allowed to wear during the ceremony. When you receive your cap (or mortarboard) you are not allowed to decorate or change it in any way. It has been a trend for college graduation ceremonies but it is not allowed in our district for our high school graduates. You will not be allowed into the arena with a decorated/altered cap. Also, you are not allowed to wear any graduation flower/money leis until after the ceremony. Please share with your families and friends these guidelines for graduation.
If you believe you have earned a cord from 4 years of participation in a sport, program, etc, you need to contact the advisor or coach in charge. They have been informed that they must turn in cord orders to the ASB office by Wednesday, May 17.
WALK OF FAME
We would like to start a new tradition with you, our soon to be graduates, visiting your elementary schools one last time in cap and gown. This new tradition went viral on social media platforms last spring. This Walk of Fame would celebrate YOU and also give our future Conquistadores something cool to look forward to. Our intention is to create a memory for our youngest and oldest students and allow you to say thank you to some cherished teachers.
This will take place after practice on May 26. We will be walking out of the gym in symbolic fashion in a tunnel leading out to the student parking lot. From there if you choose, you will load busses for your elementary school. We are only visiting our feeder schools. The visit itself would not be very long. We would load busses to go to our feeder elementary schools starting at 12 noon on Friday May 26. We would like to bring a rolling speaker and play Pomp and Circumstance and have the elementary students create a tunnel for our graduates to walk through. If you would like to be a part of this new tradition, please sign up in the ASB office.
You can record a special thank you that will be played in the arena prior to graduation. From May 15-May 19 after school you can go visit Mr. Altenburg in the KDAL studio (room 302) to record your special message. You have until 3 pm each day. You can get a special dvd of ALL the Senior Shout outs. Please ask Mr. Altenburg.
