  • Welcome to Room 5!

    Mrs. Gasio First Grade
Here is a quick overview of our classroom and our program:

    Homework

Homework will come home each Monday with the week's work, journal, books, class letter and graded papers from the previous week.  Homework is due each day, please see the new letter that will come home every Monday. Our class letter will have lots of information about what is happening at Liberty as well.

    Accelerated Reader Program

Our class participates in the Accelerated Reader Program.  This is a self paced and purely optional reading incentive program.  Children read books and take a reading comprehension quiz.  The more books that students read, the more points they earn for raffle prizes and medals at our awards assembly.  Use the drop down menu on the left to access information regarding books that we have available quizzes.

    Word Waves

Our first grade classes use the "Word Waves" as a tool for students to learn their sight words.  Word lists are now available for you to down load from the links below.. Students that read six word waves will receive an award at our awards assembly  There is an additional award for reading ten word waves.

    Helping Liberty

    1. We are collecting "Box Tops for Education."  Look for them on most grocery store products.  Each box top is worth 10 cents to our school.
    2. Become a PFA member with your membership donation.  Being a PFA member does not mean that you have to be on the board or even volunteer time for PFA events, although we would love to have you, we know that time can be very limited.  Your membership simply helps our students to go on field trips and helps pay for various  school activities.

    Attendance

Attendance is a vital part of your child's education and we at Liberty hope that illness is the only reason to miss school.  If your child should need to be absent from school please call the office or send a note stating the reason for the absence.  Absences can also be e-mailed to our school secretary, Mrs. Hughes.

    Spirit Wear

Wear your Liberty,  patriotic, all red or all blue shirts each Friday to show your school spirit. Liberty shirts and jackets can be ordered anytime.  Let me know if you would like a form.

    Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic book orders will come home once per month.  Orders can be sent in to class or placed on line.  To order on line you will need to enter the following information     Class Name:  MrsGasiosClass and Password:  Liberty5.

    Classroom Volunteers

Classroom volunteers are a valuable asset to our classroom and there are many ways to be involved.  We need parents that are willing to come in during class and help with small groups as well as parents to come and read with students.  Maybe helping in the classroom is not possible for you, we need parents  that would like to come in on special occasions to take pictures.  Help is also needed for student "Memory Books" and homework assembly.  If any of these jobs sound like a good fit for you, please let me know, we'd love to have you!
