CLASS INTRODUCTION ON DISTANCE LEARNING:  Due to the current national emergency, we are required to provide online based instruction  beginning on March 30th. Parents will be receiving updates from the district via text, phone blasts, emails, but you can also check the Chino High Homepage for current bulletins. As you know, all students are on spring break and no work is required during this time.

My students will be continuing to work on tasks they are familiar with in class. Details can be found in my Google Classroom.  Since last semester, my students have already been using Class Link which houses several applications including their textbook Pearson Realize, school email account, Google Docs, Digital Journal, and more.  I added their Daily Writing Response sheet for the remainder 8 weeks to write in daily news summaries. All students also have a copy of the novel, I am Malala, with a guided reading packet.  I will be listing the weekly assignments on Google Classroom.

I am confident that all students will be able to complete the tasks which they have already started or are familiar with as part of their daily or weekly routine. I am able to view their progress online, provide comments on their essays and daily news entries, and email student or parent to answer questions and offer assistance with the assignments. If they are not progressing on required tasks, I will also contact you to assist on getting your student back on track.

Please know that your student’s physical and emotional wellbeing is priority. Consider your family’s needs as we transition into this phase.  I do recommend establishing a morning routine beginning March 30th. For example, after breakfast, set time for students to work in the morning till lunch time. If afternoon works best for your family, then start in the early afternoon till dinner.  Be flexible as some students may prefer to work on one to three subjects per day rather than all classes daily. For example, M-W-F Math, English, History, T-Th Music/Art and, or  Science. For some, focusing on just one subject per day to concentrate on completing assignments works best.  They can always work additional hours if desired😊

CLASS ONLINE ACCESS: Students can access class assignments through the Chino High School Homepage by selecting CLASSROOMS then Ms. Montiel, Maria.  You will then select

We will be reading core novels which may include Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing,I am Malala, other TBA. The emphasis for Common Core is in developing critical thinking skills through reading and writing of literature and informational text. STUDY SKILLS CLASS DESCRIPTION: Study Skills is designed to teach important skills through power lessons and modeled practice. It will also provide students time and support for students in completing assignments, studying for tests, and learning to apply time management and organizational skills in meeting the requirements for their core classes.  I will require that students in this class complete an assignment log titled Daily Writing Response.  They simply type in the class and work they are doing each day. Their grade will be based on completion of skills focus assignments and the weekly log as well as average grades posted by their teachers at the time of grade reporting unless otherwise directed by the district office.
