CVUSD is offering ESY for qualified students on a distance learning platform in keeping with the CVUSD School Board, San Bernardino Country Superintendent, the State Superintendent of Education, and the California GOvernor's guideline.  ESY for Secondary students will run from 6/3/2020 to 6/30/2020 for Junior High Students and 6/8/2020 to 7/10/2020 for High School Students.  I will be providing Speech and Language Services for the secondary students.

Distance Speech Therapy Options: CVUSD is offering parents a choice of three options for the type of speech delivery models they would like for their student.

The first option would be an individual video session on the platform Zoom or Google Meets/Hangout. I will set up the meeting and email the parent and student (if appropriate) the date, time, meeting number, and password.  This information will change for each meeting. Once the meeting starts, your student will have 10 minutes to enter, or I will close the meeting and count them absent. You or a responsible adult will need to be close by to ensure that your student does join the meeting or in case your student needs help. If the meeting starts and they have not joined in within 5 minutes, I will email them and you.

The second option is for your student to email me their assignments.  I am setting up folders for the different areas of concern.  I will email you and your student the folder that pertains to them.  They need to complete the assignment and email me their information at my district email. If they do not respond, then I will mark them as such (No Response).

The third option would be to decline Speech and Language services for ESY this year. The services for ESY will not be rescheduled nor will make up sessions be offered.

If your student uses an AAC device, it must be changed and available for the Distance Therapy. An adult must be present to assist with the lesson.

The option you chose is the one that works best for your family's situation. You will need to email me what your choice is, or you can sesnd a letter to the CVUSD District Office Special Education Department.  You can also call the Special Education Department at (909) 628-1201, ext 1400.

Assignments: Folders are being created for the areas students have goals in: Articulatio; Fluency/Stuttering; Grammar/Syntax; Functional Communication/Life Skills; Pragmatics/Social Skills; Vocabulary/Semantics; and AAC.  Please check back near the end of May.

I will be emailing this information to all the parents of ESY student eligible for Speech and Language services.  If you have any questions or concerns please email me. I try to respond within 24 hours.

This is a very different summer experience than we have ever had before, but I hope it will be a good one.
