2006

The Chaparral habitat, or home, is found in many parts of the world. There is a chaparral in the United States, along the seacoasts in Africa, Australia, Europe, and South America. Students in the Chino Valley Unified School District also come from all over the world to call Chino Valley their home. Now they have their own chaparral, Chaparral Elementary School, to call their “home.”

Established in 2005, and opened in 2006, Chaparral Elementary is dedicated to providing learning opportunities for our students that are creative and is dedicated to the success of all learners. Chaparral is a place for everyone to learn, most importantly our students, but also teachers, classified staff, administrators, and parents. At Chaparral we embrace the excellent strategies of the past while always striving to move forward through 21st Century learning to ensure our students receive the best possible education.

Our theory of education is that all people learn by different means and have various strengths. Our goals and expectations for Chaparral are high. This includes high test scores and successful learning demonstrated by student proficiency of the Common Core State Standards for their grade level. They are also encased in the belief that school should be a place where students want to be and a “home away from home.” School must also be a place where students feel safe and protected.

Chaparral is also a place where students grow as a whole person. Expectations for student achievement and behavior are upheld by our school wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Students are reminded to internalize The Golden Rule, "Treat others how you want to be treated" by fellow students during Monday morning announcements. Signs are posted throughout the school to practice this by being safe, being responsible, and being respectful. Our Safe School Ambassador Program trains fourth, fifth, and sixth gr students an "inside-out" approach to improve school climate and positive social norms change and empowers students to help stop bullying and violence.

Chaparral Elementary operates on a traditional school calendar year. We are developing our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program and working to integrate the art aspects. This focus can help our students be best prepared for 21st Century Learning.

We are committed to the belief that within our school, all children can learn. Special services are provided for students for English language, Gifted and Talented Education, speech and language, and learning disabilities.
