The California Distinguished Schools (DS) Program was on a three year pause while California transitioned to its new assessment and accountability system (from 2014 to 2017). In 2018 California used a multiple measures accountability system to identify eligible schools based on their performance and progress on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard (Dashboard). Information regarding the Dashboard is provided on the California Department of Education (CDE) California Accountability Model and School Dashboard Web page. In 2018 California recognized outstanding education programs and practices in elementary schools. Kindergarten thru eighth grade (K–8) grade span designation was accepted.
Chaparral Elementary School has been recognized as a California Distinguished School for two academic school years thus far:
- 2011-2012 (under No Child Left Behind [NCLB] criteria)
- 2017-2018 (under Every Student Succeeds Act [ESSA] criteria)
Chaparral has been invited twice by the State of California through the State Superintendent of Schools and via communication from the County Superintendent of Schools and District Superintendent to be recognized for all efforts pursued by the teaching staff, students, and community to ensure that Chaparral is a high-achieving school for all students. Due to diligent collaboration, and a focus on 21st Century Learning, Chaparral continues to shine as an excellent school within the Chino Valley Unified School District.
We look forward to many more years of success for our students, staff, and community!
