MODEL PLC at WORK SCHOOL

Dear Canyon Hills Community,

CVUSD educators and staff are doing amazing things to support student growth and success. I’m excited to share that in conjunction with Chino Valley Unified School District being recognized as a Model PLC District by Solutions Tree during the April 18 Board of Education meeting, Canyon Hills Junior High School is being honored as a Model PLC School!

What is a PLC and what does it mean for students? Professional Learning Communities focus on maximizing student learning and achievement through collaborative partnerships that embrace and execute strategic tactics.

While CVUSD is one of only two school districts in California to ever receive this award, and more impressively, one of only 37 school districts internationally to meet the program’s rigorous criteria, Canyon Hills JHS is one of only four Model PLC Schools named in the state this school year!

Following a demanding application process, Canyon personnel presented clear evidence of consecutive data showing increases in student achievement scores over the past three years and the implementation of PLC methods schoolwide that our outstanding educators and staff embed in our day-to-day practices. Coyote staff have:

  • recognized the key to improved student learning includes on-going, job-embedded knowledge for the adults who serve our young scholars, and
  • embraced focusing on learning, building collaborative cultures, and creating results orientation so CVUSD students can succeed!

I would like to thank our extraordinary educators for working with administration and district leadership to ensure we are targeting grade-level essential standards in all Canyon Hills classrooms. According to Ms. Jessica Rodgers, the Executive Director of the Model PLC program, “The PLC process revolves around three core principles: a high commitment to high levels of learning for all students; fostering a collaborative culture among all educators to share best practices; and, maintaining a steadfast focus on achieving measurable results.” Over the last three years, this has been a challenging undertaking, but Canyon Hills staff and faculty have definitely been up to the task of doing what is necessary so our rockstar students can exceed beyond their academic and personal potential while becoming flourishing global citizens.

Thank you to the fantastic support staff on campus who continuously offer assistance to our teachers, Coyotes, and families. Your encouragement and collaboration have been overwhelmingly appreciated and vital to this amazing accomplishment.

Finally, thank you to the wonderful families that make Canyon Hills such a fantastic community to learn and thrive. The cohesive partnership between all these educational partners has elevated student learning outcomes and we couldn’t have accomplished such amazing feats without everyone working together.

I am so proud of our site’s sustained commitment to helping our Coyotes achieve at high levels and am grateful that we have all been willing to alter our traditional structure to embrace a system that fully supports our growing students and their educational needs. Cultivating clarity around the essential standards and deconstructing each standard into clear learning intentions and success criteria will continue to maximize student achievement.

My team and I are looking forward to maintaining the Model PLC School title and watching our Coyotes achieve greatness!

Kindly,

Mr. Ries
Principal
