In October 2020, high school seniors with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in STEM fields at a four-year accredited college or university, were invited to apply for the annual Southern California Edison STEM College Scholarship. Fifty students were selected through SCE’s serviceable area and asked to submit a short video detailing how they plan to follow their dreams to change the world in science, technology, engineering, or math. Of those 50 finalists, Ayala High School’s Stanley Chan was selected to receive a $40,000 college scholarship. Planning to major in Chemical Engineering, Stanley has goals of creating CO2 filtration systems that break down double bonds and emit oxygen into the atmosphere; thus, mediating climate change by recycling carbon emissions.
Congratulations Stanley! We’re all looking forward to you changing the world for the better!
