CVUSD High School Students Receive Community Builder Award

CVUSD is truly fortunate to have an amazing group of young scholars dedicated to not only building a brighter future, but also building community. During its annual Community Builder Awards dinner held on April 23, 2023, at the Fairplex Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center in Pomona, six outstanding CVUSD high school students were recognized for their success in community and civic activities, philanthropic accomplishments, and scholastic achievements.

AYALA HIGH SCHOOL

Abigail Zemla – When Abigail isn’t on the field dominating shot put and discus, she’s diligently working on campus to maintain school safety as an Ayala Safe School Ambassador. Abigail is a Seal of Biliteracy recipient and will attend George Mason University in the fall.

Kayla Bondoc – As a member of the National Honor Society, Kayla stays active on campus participating in Project Bloom, the school’s ecology club. Kayla is an aspiring artist and has committed to attending Cal State Long Beach, where she will study animation.

CHINO HIGH SCHOOL

Sarah Cooper – Sarah is an extremely active student athlete playing on the Cowboys’ tennis team for the last four years. CHINO HILLS HIGH SCHOOL

Jeff Fassbinder – Look familiar? That’s because earlier this year we celebrated Jeff for being a California Boys State Representative! This husky remains extremely active on campus, serving as a Link Crew counselor, ASB officer, and member of the award-winning Chino Hills High School Men’s Ensemble. As a former Californian Congressional intern, Jeff will be pursuing a degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.

Leila Issa – For 10 years Leila enjoyed kicking it up in the hills as a talented AYSO soccer player. When she isn’t bending it like Beckham on the field, Leila is a member of the CHHS Polynesian Dance Club and serves as a student representative to the Chino Hills Parks and Recreation Commission. Good luck at UC San Diego, Leila!
