Two CVUSD High Schools Named Finalists for Outstanding Leadership Program Award!

The student leadership squads at Chino Hills High and Don Lugo High stand at the pinnacle of excellence as they emerge as finalists for the prestigious Outstanding Leadership Program Award (OLPA) presented by the California Association of Director of Activities (CADA) and the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL)!  This esteemed recognition celebrates the unwavering dedication of our student leaders and their advisors. The honor is presented to only 5% of eligible schools and is a testament to their commitment to inclusivity, service, and unity.

Husky and Conquistador student leaders exhibited the key components of the CADA/CASL Roadmap in their applications. These include adapting activities and events, providing resources to underprivileged families and students, uniting the campus through all adversities, addressing and supporting students and staff struggling with mental health, creating a community of inclusivity, encouraging a culture of service, and working towards creating an equitable campus.

At Chino Hills High, the ASB team builds spirit through events such as rallies, Homecoming, and International Culture Week. The Renaissance team plans and promotes recognition events for staff, students, and other groups. Peer Leadership reaches out to smaller groups to ensure all Huskies are seen and have a safe environment on campus. Link Crew welcomes and mentors the freshman class by hosting freshman orientation, freshman movie night, “Cocoa and Cram” before finals, and so much more.

At Don Lugo, the leadership program collaborates to make sure everyone has a little bit of spotlight to be able to enjoy their high school years. The teams work to integrate the student body during school-wide functions. For example, at rallies, they devise fun mini-games during rallies and invite prominent students who are not in leadership to MC. To build trust, the team also provides a safe and inclusive spaces at the student wellness center. Renaissance Leadership promoted teacher appreciation with “We A ‘Door’ You!”, in which students left positive notes on their teacher's doors.

We extend our gratitude to our remarkable Husky and Conquistador leadership whose selfless devotion enriches our school community.
