Ayala High School Boys Water Polo Team Receives Championship Rings!
For the first time since 2003, the Bulldogs are California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) division champions in boys water polo! The 2023 CIF Southern Regional Division 5 Championship is the program's second title overall. The crowning moment of the Bulldogs 2023-2024 season came after a hard fought 10-7 victory over Royal High School on November 11th, 2023. The whole team, including Coach Kevin Hammond, leapt into the pool in jubilation after time expired, celebrating their win over the Highlanders. The victory earned the Bulldogs a spot in the CIF State Division 3 South Region Tournament, where they finished as a semi-finalist.
Ayala HS honored this historic win at a ring ceremony held during a school rally on March 15th, 2024. The boys water polo team and coaches lined up in front of the student assembly to receive their championship rings. Worn with pride, these rings will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices and hard work that our student athletes and coaches invested in a very successful season.
The Bulldogs also received coach and player recognitions from CIF for their performance throughout the 2023-2024 water polo season. Coach Hammond's guidance earned him All-CIF Division 5 Coach of the Year and team captain Benjamin Trull was named All-CIF Division 5 Player of the Year. Other Bulldogs receiving All Team honors include:
First Team - Tyler Johnson, Donovan Thomas, Alex Sanchez de La Cruz
Second Team - Colin Mulqueen, Kan Wukelich
Third Team - Jaime Park
Honorable Mention - Alex Florentinus, Julian Juarez, Evan Chang
Congratulations to our Bulldog student athletes, coaches, and staff for a memorable season that leaves a legacy in the halls of Ayala. Go Bulldogs!
