33 CVUSD Schools Earn either a Platinum or Gold PBIS Award!
During the first week in September, participating schools throughout the state received notification from California PBIS regarding the success of their Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs. Thirty-three Chino Valley Unified School District principals were excited to learn that their sites had either received a Platinum or Gold distinction for successfully meeting program criteria for implementing features of positive behavioral interventions and supports on their campus during the 2023/2024 school year.
Chino Valley USD staff attended the Ninth Annual Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Showcase on October 3, 2024, at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center in Rancho Cucamonga where they joined other outstanding San Bernardino County schools participating in the PBIS program. Earning a total of 30 Platinum awards, CVUSD staff and administrators were pleased to learn that, according to the CA PBIS list, the District had earned the second highest number of Platinum recognitions in the state. To add to the excitement, Chino Valley administrators were proud to discover that their sites had earned the highest number of Platinum awards in the county with Ontario-Montclair School District coming in second with 18 Platinum recognitions.
To earn Platinum recognition, which is the highest level of achievement that can be obtained through the PBIS system, recipients must show evidence of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 advanced interventions that assist students through more intensive supports.
Three CVUSD schools earned Gold recognition for their school prevention strategies that include teaching and modeling school-wide expectations, creating a system that recognizes appropriate behavior, and establishing a restorative approach that corrects behavior by focusing on assigning consequences that support and teach students.
“Creating a positive school environment and nurturing a campus where students want to be present is vital to establishing a strong foundation for both academic and personal success. It takes an immense amount of dedication to foster an effective behavioral system that makes a significant impact on individual and collective actions. It’s no surprise that our committed CVUSD staff was up to the task of accomplishing this amazing feat,” Superintendent Norm Enfield shared.
PBIS is a systems-based, multi-tiered framework that aims to help improve academics, reduce problem behaviors, increase attendance, reduce bullying, and improve social and emotional competency of students. The program emphasizes the utilization of a process, or approach, rather than a curriculum, intervention, or practice. CPC initiated its first statewide effort in 2015 to implement a recognition system that acknowledges schools for implementing PBIS with fidelity to the national framework.
CVUSD staff are thrilled to continue their work improving student behavior and nurturing positive school environments!
