Walnut ES Gold Medal PBIS team speaks at CA PBIS Coalition
Walnut Elementary School Gold Medal PBIS team speaks at California PBIS Coalition The PBIS Team at Walnut Avenue Elementary School recently gave an engaging and informative presentation at the annual California PBIS Coalition Conference held in Sacramento on September 26, 2018. Their presentation, “The Path to PBIS: P.A.C.K. in Action,” shared their perspective as administrators and teachers in developing a PBIS culture and assembling educators towards a multi-tiered system of support. Approximately 150 psychologists, teachers, administrators, behavior therapists, and others in education profession were in the audience, many of whom provided positive feedback on the presentation. Some PBIS coaches from other districts even asked if they could bring a team to visit Walnut Avenue Elementary school to see PBIS in action. The Walnut Elementary School PBIS team also heard from other presenters from all over California. Principal Karen Morales mentioned, “they got to learn about trauma and behaviors, sustaining PBIS, implementing Tiers 2 and 3 systems of support, Restorative Practices, etc.” Walnut Avenue Elementary School’s PBIS presenting team includes: Kris Ives (Instructional Coach), Lorraine Kahn (Intervention Teacher), Lauren Martin (2nd Grade Teacher), Joann Marti (6th Grade Teacher), Michael Rodriguez (Assistant Principal), and Karen Morales (Principal).
