Ayala High School senior Joshua Rodriguez has been awarded a $40,000 scholarship from energy company Edison International.
He is one of 30 recipients from Southern California Edison’s region of Tulare to South El Monte. The students are chosen for their academic success and financial need. All are pursuing careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math).
The scholarship will be awarded over a four-year period.
The Ayala student has a 4.46 grade point average. He has received acceptance letters from Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He plans to study computer engineering technology, and hopes to create ways to make clean energy resources more accessible and affordable.
Joshua competes on Ayala’s swim and tennis teams, tutors students in math and physics, and volunteers at San Antonio Medical Center in Upland. The Chino resident previously attended Rhodes Elementary School in Chino, and Canyon Hills Junior High School in Chino Hills.
