About the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

On January 1, 2014, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System was established. The primary purpose of the CAASPP System is to assist teachers, administrators, students, and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types. The CAASPP consists of:

Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics in grades three through eight and grade eleven.
California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for ELA and mathematics in grades three through eight and grade eleven.
California Science Test (CAST) in grades, five, eight, eleven, and some twelfth.
California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for Science in grades five, eight, eleven, and some twelfth.

Electronic Student Score Reports (SSR) for CAASPP

Student Score Reports (SSR) are generated in English for all students, and, if the student’s primary language is Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Filipino, Korean, or Arabic, an additional SSR in the student’s primary language is provided in the same file. If the student’s primary language is either Mandarin or Cantonese, they will receive an SSR in traditional Chinese.

SSRs ar optimized to be viewed on a variety of devices, including mobile devices. Parents/guardians can access SSRs through the Aeries Parent Portal.

The Parent Guides to Understanding are two-page flyers written in easy-to-understand language that answer key questions (what, why, who, how, and when) about California’s assessment programs. Information is also included about how parents can support their student’s success.
