Together we can make a powerful difference!

2026 marks the ninth year that Dr. Dianne Vargas has partnered with CVUSD to raise awareness about mental health and highlight the important role we all play in supporting the emotional and psychological wellbing of our students.
An expert facilitator and Associate Professor of School Counseling at Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, California, Dr. Vargas began her annual visit with a morning training session for CVUSD staff and first responders involved in screening students identified as being at risk for suicide. Participaing staff strengthened their understanding of risk factors, suicide prevention, and postvention strategies, including re-entry meetings, safety plans, and referral services.
During the evening session held in the Chino Hills High School multipurpose room, Dr. Vargas connected with CVUSD parents, guardians, families, and friends to discuss youth suicide awareness, prevention, and response. Attendees learned how to recognize warning signs of depression and suicidal behavior, better understand adolescent brain development and decision-making, take immediate action when a student needs support, and begin important conversations about suicide and depression.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success. By increasing awareness, strengthening connections, and knowing how to respond, we can create a stronger network of support for our students!
For families that were unable to attend this year’s awareness meeting, feel free to visit the District’s Suicide Prevention Awareness webpage and review Dr. Vargas’ handout and presentation.
