• Dear Wickman Wildcat Families,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! The Wickman staff hopes that you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. I am privileged and honored to be the principal at Wickman Elementary and feel so fortunate to be a part of the amazing team of educational professionals at this school. We are eager to partner with you and your child in making this an outstanding year of learning.

Our theme this year is “The Future is an Adventure!” We want to make sure that the “adventure” of learning is engaging and meaningful for our students. As we move further into the 21st century, Wickman is striving to provide a fantastic learning environment that will prepare our students for their educational journey into college and career success.

We are happy to welcome and announce some new members of the Wickman team:

Assistant Principal – Mr. Trevor Carenzo. He is excited to be here, and we are grateful to have him as a part of our team. For more information on Mr. Carenzo, please see his letter of introduction.

We are also fortunate to have four new teachers on the Wickman Staff: Elena Russell, 6th grade teacher; Amy Sonders, 4th grade teacher; Jessica Brazynetz, 3rd grade teacher; and Grace Yang, Resource teacher.

Wickman has a tradition of success that values high expectations, rigorous learning goals, personal responsibility, and character development for all students. In order for us to continue that success, we value your partnership, as it is essential in providing the best possible education for your children. We invite and encourage you to be involved in our school community by communicating with your child’s teacher, volunteering in the classroom and on campus, becoming a member of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and assisting your children in developing a love for learning and the determination to succeed.

This year, Chino Valley Unified School District is introducing a new Standards Based Report Card that is aligned with the current California Academic Standards. Please review the district’s website on Standards Based Report Card for more information. We will also schedule Parent Meetings to explain this shift in grading and why this change is important to meet the needs of our students.

We committed to provide our children a 21st century education and the skills to prepare them to be ready for college, career, and on to a fulfilling life, all while providing a supportive, caring, fun, and nurturing environment. We are fortunate to have many teachers on staff who have taken a leadership role in developing the curriculum for our district as a whole. For more information on the California Academic Standards including Common Core, please visit the California Department of Education website at www.cde.ca.gov.

This is an exciting and dynamic time in education. We are experiencing rapid and increasing change in society and it is no different in education. We value the change that is taking place, because it means we are continuing to learn. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

    Thank you,

    Tom Rummell

    Principal, Wickman Elementary School
