    (General Educational Development)
    The GED is one way to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma, called a GED certificate, by passing four subject tests on computer in English or Spanish.
     
    Currently enrolled CVAS students who want to study using GED Academy from home can access their accounts through this link:  https://www.essentialed.com/start/chino   
     
     
    To register for the GED preparation online learning program offered through Chino Valley Adult School come to our 📍Main Office located at 12970 Third Street in Chino. 
    We're open: 
    • Monday-Thursday 8:00am - 5:30pm
    • Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm

    You will complete an assessment when you register for GED Prep Class. 
     

    To take the GED, do the following:

    • Create your account at: www.GED.com
    • Pay fees through the ged.com website. The adult school will not collect fees.
    • California fee for testing totals $140 ($35 per subject)
    • Testing Schedule*:
      • Monday and Wednesday 12:00 - 4:00 pm
      • Tuesday and Thursday    10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
      • Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Bring a valid state issued or government picture ID to register. The ID needs to include the applicant's photo, name, address, date of birth and signature.

    *A computer in the school office will be available for students who need computer access or help registering to take the test.

  • High School Diploma vs. GED: What’s the Difference?

    High School Diploma (HSD) 

    Students seeking a high school diploma need 180 credits in designated subjects.  Students work at their own pace in online learning courses. The tests are not timed, and students are allowed to use their notes.   

    Students need to provide their high school transcript(s) to our office to determine which classes they will need. If a student went to high school in another country, many times the transcript can be translated, and classes may count toward the student’s credits in the U.S.  

    GED (General Education Development) Credential 

    To earn your GED credential, you must pass the four GED exams in Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math.  These exams are offered in English and Spanish. Students prepare for each exam one at a time, and then take that test before moving on to another subject.   

    Is the GED equal to a High School Diploma? 

    The GED is a high school equivalency diploma, so you can use it to apply to college or for a job resume, just like you would with a high school diploma. More than 98 percent of schools in the United States accept the GED, including community colleges, universities, and private schools.  Employers also generally view the GED as equal to a high school diploma. 

    How do I know if the GED or High School Diploma is better for me? 

    To determine the best path, a student should bring their high school transcript and meet with a counselor. The GED (General Education Development) certificate is a good option for students who need many credits to earn a diploma.   

    Important facts to know about the GED:  

    • The GED must be done in an approved testing center (we have one here at CVAS) or proctored at home with certain strict requirements.  
    • The tests are timed.  
    • The Language Arts test includes an essay portion which students will type. 
    • Each GED exam costs $35 (for a total of $140).  If you do not pass a test, there is a retake fee of $15.  Students must pay for each test when they schedule their test appointment on www.GED.com.  (These fees are paid to the company that administers the test.) 

    How we help students pass the GED tests: 

    • Assessment tests are administered to develop a study plan.  
    • Students use an online self-paced learning program and study in our classroom or at home at their convenience.  
    • Teachers monitor student progress and provide tutoring and supplemental study resources as needed. 
    • We also provide vouchers so that our students can take the practice tests on www.GED.com for free (normally $6.00 per test). 

    All five of our teachers are credentialed and can help the students with any questions about content they may have.  Two of our teachers specialize in math and can provide individualized tutoring in the classroom. Charlie Conaway is available Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 pm and Alisa Kuhns is available Monday-Thursday 12-3:00 pm. 

     Our classroom hours are:   

    Monday - Thursday from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.  

    Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  

    In addition, we also have a working partnership with Chaffey College. Students who are enrolled in our HSD or GED programs can take some courses there for free (books, tuition, registration) and some classes earn high school diploma credit as well as college credit.
