World Cultures
& Geography
Dear Students & Parents,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Briggs Junior High School and
a special welcome to your Social Science class, World Cultures & Geography.
World Cultures will concentrate on the study of World History and Geography
from the time of the Roman Empire through more than a dozen centuries to
the Ages of Exploration and Enlightenment. We will study the social, political
and economic history of numerous nations and empires. By studying the unique
beliefs, law, art, literature and geography of each society, we will be able to link the
past to the present in a manner which will promote a richer and more complete
understanding of both.
To help ensure a productive and educational year, I am presenting both the
general class requirements and the expectations of students at this time:
Required Daily Materials:
A student planner, your chromebook, lined loose-leaf paper (not spiral paper),
blue/black ink pens, a three-ringed binder with dividers or folders, regular pencils,
red pens/pencils, colored pencils and a soft eraser.
Grading:
This year, seventh grade students will be on a “trimester” schedule.
After the first six weeks of a progress report will be mailed home.
A report card will be mailed at the end of 12 weeks. After each
12-week session, the cycle starts again.
There will be three progress reports and three report cards during the school year.
Grades may be checked at any time via Aeries.
Grades are based on tests, quizzes, projects, class work, participation,
and homework. Grades are expressed as a percentage of points earned
out of a total number of points possible. For example, a student who earned
nine out of ten possible points on an assignment will have earned a 90%.
A student earning 90%-100% of total available points will receive an "A",
80%-89% = "B", 70%-79% = "C", 60%-69% = "D" and
59% or lower = "F". Points are cumulative for each 12-week trimester.
Homework is generally assigned four nights a week.
Late assignments will only be accepted for full-credit due to excused absences.
Otherwise, work that is one day late may earn up to 50% credit and work that
is two days late may earn up to 25% credit.
Make-up work is the responsibility of the student.
Please see the Mr. George regarding missed tests, work/assignments.
