     Dear Families of Room 35,

           Welcome to Mrs. Millen's 5th grade class!  I am so excited to get started on what will be a fabulous year.  I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you in the coming weeks.  There will be so many fun things to learn and explore, and I can't wait to get started!

           I will be discussing the 5th grade California State Standards, our classroom behavior management plan, homework, as well as other crucial information in detail at our virtual Back to School Night on the evening of Wednesday, August 24th (Session 1- 6:00PM, Session 2- 6:30PM).  During the next two weeks, we will be working hard to establish our classroom routines and adjusting to life in 5th grade.  I can't wait for our first day of school on Monday, starting at our new time of 7:50AM!

          Fifth grade will be a fun and exciting, yet challenging year.  However, the team approach of parent, teacher, school, and student will be effective in accomplishing our goal of creating 21st century learners.  Thank you for your support and encouragement.  Let's all work together to make this year your child's best ever!

         Exciting news!  We will be one-to-one technology this year in our classroom.  Every child will have access to their own Chromebook at their desk.  It may be helpful to purchase a mouse and small pair of headphones or earbuds for your child to use and store in our class.  This would be greatly beneficial to add to any supplies you may want to purchase for your child.

        Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.  You are welcome to email me at lori_millen@chino.k12.ca.us or message me on the Remind app.  Please sign up as soon as possible to stay up to date with our class.  When signing up, please use your first and last name.  Then in parenthesis write your child's name.  For example, my Remind name would be: Lori Millen(Troy).  Our code for Remind is on our main class webpage.  On Monday, our first day of school, I will set up all of your children onto our Google Classroom through ClassLink.  This is where many of our assignments and communication will be utilized.  This is also where you will be able to see many of your child's grades. 

    I know we are going to have a fantastic 5th grade year!
