English Language Learner News
The California Department of Education has identified over 1 million students are English learners. With that, Newman Elementary is committed to ensure English learners acquire proficiency in English as rapidly and effectively as possible to attain parity with native speakers of English. Newman Elementary provides English learners with Designated English Language Development Time (DELD) on a daily basis. Newman Elementary has an English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) that provides feedback specifically for English learners -- this committee is open to any parent and we invite our community to participate in our meetings; please see the side menu for dates of upcoming ELAC meetings! Newman has a Spanish Bilingual Clerk to assist our community and Chino Valley Unified School District has a community liaison to help families support their students.
English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC)
Students who participate in our English learner program will be assessed annually by the ELPAC. This assessment measures an English learner's progress towards language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The goal is to provide students with the tools and skills needed to reclassify and be fluent in the English language.
