At this time, I recommend renting a string instrument for your child for their first year of Strings since purchasing an instrument can be a big investment. I often find students wanting to try a different instrument the following year before deciding on the right one.
I also recommend you rent if your child isn't playing on a full size instrument yet. Since your child is still growing, they will be sizing up to a full size as their arms and height grow. Also, it's important to note that you shouldn't purchase (or rent) a full size instrument so they can grow into it. Getting a properly sized instrument that's comfortable to play will help them master their craft and enjoy the experience of making music.
It is your goal to borrow, rent or purchase a quality instrument. Please do not purchase an instrument from a big-box store. Although the low price is attractive, most are very low quality and will create a frustrating playing experience for your child.
