Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.

Rhodes Elementary is a recipient within the California PBIS Coalition’s System of Recognition, reflecting excellence in the measurement of fidelity as well as efforts in implementing the core features of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

All around campus, students can find posters with specific examples of being respectful, responsible, and safe for each location. Every Professor or grade level has developed expectations for being respectful, responsible and safe in the classroom. We reinforce positive behaviors through classroom level incentives, as well as schoolwide recognition called "Scholarships." We also recognize Scholars through our Rhodes Outstanding Character (ROC) awards at Trimester Assemblies.

Our implementation of PBIS is measured through a tool called the Tiered Fidelity Inventory, or TFI. Our results for the past three school years have shown our growth in Tier 1. Tier 1 represents schoolwide interventions, including setting schoolwide expectations and implementing a schoolwide acknowledgement system. We have also begun to track our Tier 2 implementation. Tier 2 represents targeted interventions for students based on need, including MTSS-B counseling, Check-in Check-out, and guidance lessons.
