PHYSICAL EDUCATION STAFF: Ms. Bromley, Mr. Booth, Mr. Martin, Mrs. Walker, Mr. Berruecos
Dear Students and Family Members,
The physical education team at Canyon Hills JHS is working from our online resources from our school site webpages to help you stay physically active and healthy while our schools are closed. In order to meet physical education goals during this time, students must be physically active for 40-60 minutes each day and complete any classwork assignments given by his/her classroom teacher.
Remember, activity time doesn’t have to happen all at once. You can add up your total activity throughout the day to equal 40-60 minutes. Students, at the end of each day, ask a family member to sign next to the day’s total activity. Then, turn the finished log to your physical education teacher by using Google Classroom on the specified date.
Your physical education teachers would also like you to visit the file links from their classroom webpages in order to download ALL assignments that are to be done at home.
Thank you for your cooperation. Stay active and stay well.
Sincerely,
Your Physical Education Staff
Grades 6-8 (Engages in Physical Activity)
- How/When will Students Submit Work?
All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. All work assigned will be turned in through the Google Classroom. All students will write down their assignments in their agenda and turn in their completed work on time by the due date assigned. ALL due dates will be posted by date and time.
- When are assessments?
Assessments may be assigned, if applicable. Students will refer to each teacher’s Google Classroom announcements for assessment dates. Assessments will be completed or turned in by each teacher’s specified due date.
- How will student work be graded?
Grades will be updated and posted on Aeries. If a student or parent has a question about grades they will contact the teacher directly via email.
Grades will be assigned as follows:
A=100-90% B=89-80% C=79-70% D= 69-60% F=59 and below
Grades will include: all classwork, homework, participation, attendance questions, agenda (filled-out and parent signed), quizzes, assessements, performances, skill testing, fitness logs, runs (when we return to school).
Assessments will be given to assess student knowledge and fitness. They will occur in the Google Classroom via Google Docs and Google Forms and Presentation mode (performance). All students will be given feedback for their completed work.
- How and when will teachers provide feedback?
- Teachers will provide feedback when needed or requested via Google Classroom and/or email.
- Teachers will grade all submitted work and make notes when applicable to provide feedback. Work will be graded for mastery of the learning and grades will be vital in providing feedback to students.
- Students will receive comments from me to insure they know how they are doing on all work turned in. Grades will be updated weekly through Aeries and I encourage students to check weekly. If a student finds an error on their grade, they should let me know ASAP so I can check into it and correct any discrepencies.
- How will students participate in online learning?
- Students are expected to participate in all assignments and assessments, as they are posted to Google Classroom and/or the teacher website.
- If students have trouble accessing or turning in any assignments, they will contact the teacher via email before the assigned due date. Late may receive a lower grade.
- How do students/parents contact the teacher?
All questions and concerns must be emailed to the teacher or may be addressed during office hours. See teacher websites for email addresses.
- Distance Learning Expectations:
- Students will check their teacher's website/Google Classroom daily.
- Students will complete all Distance Learning Assignments and turn them in on time.
- Students will follow the School-Wide Expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful
- Students will follow academic honesty and not engage in plagiarism or cheating.
- Students will write in their agendas daily and have parents sign EVERY Thursday.
- Students will use their Sportfolio, complete their Fitness Logs weekly, and dress for activity (just like at school).
- Distance Learning Norms
- As a mom and educator, I strongle believe that it is important for all students to be physically and emotionally prepared to learn. With that in mind, I would encourage ALL of you to prepare for your Virtual School Day the same way you would prepare if you were attending school. I would encourage all of you to get up, get dressed, set up your desk/work area free from distractions, and be emotionally prepared to spend your school day 7:30 am to 2:30 pm being active learners.
- When you logon to your classes, enter them on mute, dressed for activity, and have your paper, pencil, sportfolio and water bottle ready. I expect to see all my students faces for the entire class period we are together...I do not want the "video off" button selected. If there is a need to leave my class period, I would expect a student to ask me...just as he/she would if we were in class together.
- Although we are in a virtual setting, we will actively learn/workout as if we were physically together on the blacktop. I will be selecting different students to help me facilitate EDs, lead classroom conversations, and help keep time. Be ready...you will all have a chance to help me lead in our virtual space!
Best regards,
Carri Walker

How Do I Use My PE Locker Combination?
- Turn combination lock dial clockwise (right) for a few passes to clear any previous opening attempts. Proceed to the first number and stop.
- Turn combination lock dial in the opposite direction, counter-clockwise (left), passing the first number 1x and then to the next number in the combination.
- Turn combination lock dial clockwise (right) until the dial comes to a complete stop and proceed by turning the dial until the catch mechanism opens under spring tension. At this point, do not let go of the dial and pull open the door as you have the locker catch in the open position.
- GET DRESSED and place personal clothing into your personal lockers ONLY!
- Shut locker door before you leave the locker room.
- Upon the end of the class, get dressed back into your school clothing by following the above procedures in opening and closing your personal locker.
- NO sharing combinations. PROTECT your locker number. EXIT the locker room promptly.
