Message from the Principal Mrs. Sunderland…
Glenmeade Elementary is a place where students succeed at high levels and where families are involved. Our school provides a perfect setting for children to grow and bloom. Thank you for sharing your children; they are truly a gift to us.
For those I have not yet met, let me briefly introduce myself. I'm Denise Sunderland, the principal at Glenmeade Elementary and I'm excited to be part of a school tradition that has provided many years of educational excellence in the Chino Valley Unified School District. I am a longtime resident of Chino, having lived in this area my entire life. I both taught and was an administrator in FUSD for 18 years and made the move to CVUSD 5 years ago.
One of our goals at Glenmeade is to serve and nurture all our students. This begins with our Full Inclusion Pre-School classes. We are committed to making every year an exceptional experience for all students. Our teachers work together interdependently in order to impact their practice in ways that will lead to better results for students, teams, and our school. Our goal is for teachers to engage in collective inquiry to identify essential student learning, create lesson plans, develop assessments, analyze scores and set achievement goals. Our focus is to ensure that our students receive the best instruction from an action oriented team of teachers.
Your child's elementary school years are a special time in his or her life. During this time children undergo important developmental changes. It is also a time when children become more autonomous and they transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." It is my belief that parents are the first teachers of their children and they play a central role in their child's education. I invite you to participate in open, honest, and continuous communication with your child's teachers to ensure a successful home-school partnership.
There are several ways to keep up with the latest happenings at Glenmeade. For the latest announcements, please make sure you check the school website on a regular basis. It will answer many questions you may have concerning school programs and events. You will be able to report absences, pay for lunches, check the school calendar, correspond with your child's teacher, and use a variety of valuable resources. You can follow us on Twitter @GlenmeadeElem and "like" our Glenmeade PTA Facebook page for up to date information about events and activities. There will also be monthly newsletters with an "at-a-glance" list of important dates.
Our PTA continuously impacts our school with their passion and dedication to Glenmeade. They are an amazing group of people who commit to focus their time, talents, energies, and resources for our children's education and welfare. For the community, our PTA sponsors movie nights, dances, and family dining events. For the school, our association supports quality education by donating money from PTA-sponsored fund raisers directly to the school for supplemental curriculum materials, student learning, staff professional development, projects, special school programs, and workshops. I encourage all of you to become active serving members of our PTA.
Thank you in advance for supporting your child's success at school, in the classroom, and through our parent organizations. My door is always open to discuss the best way to help your child in their educational journey. If I can ever be of assistance, please email me at Denise_Sunderland@chino.k12.ca.us or call me at (909) 393-4087.
