Sixth Grade:
This April, the students continue reading for fluency and comprehension, while learning valuable skills in how to cite evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. They continue to analyze in detail how a key individual, event, or idea is introduced, illustrated, and elaborated in the text. The students determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases based on grade 6 reading and content, choosing from a range of strategies, such as context clues, Greek or Latin affixes and roots, and using reference materials to clarify precise meaning. Students are also improving their reading skills through the Core5 Lexia program, which is easily accessible at home. They are sharpening their writing skills through Rewards Writing by using precise language and specific vocabulary.
