Specialized Academic Instruction
-
Canyon Hills Junior High School has Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) services, formerly known as Special Education, to meet the individual needs of our students. SAI support in specific general education eighth-grade classrooms is given via the co-teaching/collaboration service delivery model. RSP Math and RSP English Language Arts classes are offered for students that need a slightly higher level of academic support than available in General Education, while Special Day classes in Math, English, History, and Science are available to assist students that benefit from SAI for at least fifty percent of their school day. All students receiving SAI participate in an elective class and a Physical Education course.
Casemanagers are responsible for monitoring individual progress for all students on their caseload. Their responsibilities include interpreting test scores, administering formal/informal assessments to determine appropriate class placement as well as additional classroom supports that may be needed, maintaining frequent communication with each student and family and holding an IEP meeting at least one time per year.
