    Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. I look forward to a productive and exciting year.  The following text contains my digital classroom policies and distance learning expectations.

    Platforms that will be used for this class:

    • Google Classroom is the platform that we will utilize for all class meetings, assignments, assessments and turning in completed work.
    • App extensions such as Flipgrid and Kami will be used. Both of these apps should already be on your Classlinks Webpage.
    • Aeries will be where your official grade in the class will be posted. Check it often and email me any questions.
    • Aeries communications will be used for announcements and reminders.

    Daily Student Expectations

    • Check email daily and respond to email communications and read assignment feedback.
    • Log in to Google Classroom every school day and complete attendance regardless of whether you meet with the teacher that day.
    • Ask for help when you need it. If something is unclear, immediately ask for assistance during office hours, class time, or email.
    • Students will participate in their Google Meet time for direct instruction during assigned class days and times.
    • Students will work on assignments for the class everyday regardless of whether they meet with the teacher that day.

     

    Digital Classroom Rules

    • Participate in live class interactions in a quiet area while sitting at a table.
    • Be prepared. Have the supplies you need for Google Meets with you BEFORE it begins.
    • Use school appropriate language and behavior in front of your screen.
    • Be mindful of what is in the background of your webcam.
    • Be respectful of EVERYONE - keep all comments and posts positive.
    • Be an active participant in your education. Turn the TV off and silence your cell phone. No Pictures or recording.

    Be patient! It will take a little while in the beginning to get used to everything.  Don’t give up!

    Failure to follow class rules will result in:

    • 1st offense: warning (verbal or email)
    • 2nd offense: parent contact (phone or email)
    • 3rd: offense: administrative referral

    Grading Criteria

    Attendance and Participation Students will check in for attendance EVERYDAY. Attendance will be monitored. Three unexcused absences will be referred to the office.

    • All assignments will be communicated through Google Classroom. All class assignments must be turned into Google Classroom and will account for 40% of the student’s grade. 60% will be attributed to Tests and Quizzes
    • Students are encouraged to re-do and re-submit any assignment they received a 69% or below on.
    • Aeries is where the most updated grade in the class will be posted. Aeries will be updated weekly.

     

    Google Classroom Assignments

    What kind of assignments will there be? Following the common core standards for literacy in social studies/history, assignments will emphasize: 

    • citing textual evidence
    • determining the central idea of a text
    • reading complex texts independently as the year progresses
    • writing arguments to support claims with clear evidence
    • produce clear and coherent writing assignments
    • the analysis of historical primary sources 
    • Be ready for class; use a place in your home free from distractions
    • Complete the attendance task, even on school days that you do not have history

    Google Classroom Assessments

    • A combination of project based assessments and common formative assessments and they will account for 75% of the student’s grade.
    • All assessments will be communicated through Google Classroom. All assessments must be turned in to Google Classroom.
    • Aeries is where the most updated grade in the class will be posted. Aeries will be updated weekly.

    Suggested Supplies for Distance Learning

    1. Dry erase marker and mini whiteboard (or sheet protector with blank, white paper inside)
    2. Regular school supplies, such as: a folder, lined paper, pencils, pens, colored pencils.
