• Welcome to Mr. Swift's Distance Learning Classroom

    English 11 CP

    Intro to Theatre

    Athletic PE (Soccer)

Welcome back to school everyone.  I hope you had a good summer, or as good as you could make it under the circumstances.  I am looking forward to this school year.  It may be different than what you are used to, but the challenge will make you stronger.  No matter what class you have me for, I will do my best to insure that you receive the same types of skills and knowledge that you would in a regular classroom environment.  My goal is to make you successful in whatever you choose to do when you leave my classroom next summer.  Below you will find some information that will help you navigate the first part of this school year.  Make sure to read all the information, so that you are aware of schedules, procedures, and plans for the upcoming weeks.

Instructional Plans for In person Blended Learning

Students will come to school on the days designated for their cohort.  It is recommended that students bring an electronic device to class everyday, preferably their laptop computers.  If students choose not to bring their laptops, then they must bring their textbooks.  Students must be in class and in their seats by the time the bell rings.  Upon entering class students must sanitize their hands with sanitizer found at the door, and then they will be given a sanitizing wipe to use on their own desk.  Students must wear masks at all times.  Any student not following this rule will be removed from class.  If students need to leave class for any reason other than to use the bathroom, they must receive permission by the teacher.  Students who need to use the restroom must sign out when they leave and sign back in when they return.  The sign out sheet will be placed by the door.

During the days that students are not on campus, so the days their cohorts are doing asynchronous learning, they will be required to answer an attendance question on google classroom.  They must answer this question or they will be marked absent for that asynchronous day.  The other school work that students will receive those days will usually be completing class assignments from the day before when they were on campus.

Instructional plans for the Week (This will be how you connect to the live class sessions)

Everyday you will sign on to google classroom using your school email and password.  This can be done a number of ways.  You can click on the link in Aeries for my class, you can go through class link on the don lugo website under student, or you can sign on directly to google using your school email and password.

Once you are in our google classroom there will be link under the material "Virtual Classroom Meeting". This will be in the stream, and you can find it in the classwork section of google classroom under the heading Live Classroom. We will be using Zoom for our live class sessions everyday.  If you are using a mobile device, you will need to download the Zoom app.

This link will take you to the live Zoom meeting:

    Distance Learning Classroom Norms

Distance Learning Classroom Expectations and Norms of Conduct

    • Students should not share their login information, meeting links, or passwords with others.
    • To the extent possible, students should participate in virtual instruction from a quiet and neutral area that is free of distractions.
    • School and classroom rules apply to the virtual instruction environment (what are they?)
    • Generally, there should be an expectation that students participate with their camera on. Accommodations can be addressed through an IEP meeting with Students with Disabilities or through a meeting for students with a 504 who are unwilling to participate with the camera on. For all other students who demonstrate an unwillingness to be visible on camera should be addressed with the student/parent.
    • What is the protocol for the following?
      • Should the camera be on when participating? Do all students have a camera on their personal device?
      • When should the microphone be muted?
      • When should the microphone be on?
      • When should the chat box be used?
      • How do they ask questions?
    • Students should dress appropriately for virtual instruction sessions.
    • Students who use inappropriate language, share inappropriate images, or in any way behave inappropriately on a video conference will be subject to appropriate discipline.
    • Students should not conduct audio or video recordings or take screen shots of virtual class meetings or activities unless they have received prior permission to do so from a teacher or authorized District official.
    • To the extent possible, parents should allow the student to work with the instructor or provider in a quiet, private space. However, to the extent a student requires adult support to participate in virtual instruction/services, a parent or guardian may be specifically asked by the instructor or service provider to provide such support.
    • Once the virtual instruction session or meeting is over, students should be sure to close out of the meeting platform entirely. Students should also ensure that cameras are covered and that microphones are turned off to avoid inadvertent transmission following the meeting.

    Secondary Only

    • Students should be aware of the expectation of the attendance task for the days they are not with the teachers for synchronous instruction.
