    Desktop Publishing

    The major emphasis of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge of word processing and graphic and design skills in the production of professional documents such as a flyer, letterhead, business card, magazine cover, and newsletter. Graphic design and page layout techniques are emphasized. Students use proper desktop publishing techniques to produce documents. This course is aligned with the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Technology, Industry Sector within the California Career Technical Education Standards.

    Digital Imaging

    This course is designed to give students a broad overview of the use of graphics and their impact on society. Students will learn to identify visual elements and principles of design using the language of the visual arts and apply them to visual technology. Students are taught how to manipulate digital graphics and how to create and use original digital art for commercial web design and marketing. This course is aligned with the Information Technology, Industry Sector within the California Career Technical Education Standards.

    Digital Video Production

    This course is designed to give students a broad overview of the digital visual arts. Students are provided with a foundational knowledge of art elements and design principles as well as the specialized vocabulary of the film and television industry. Students develop skills using various media with a focus on the creation of video artworks. This course is aligned with the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Technology, Industry Sector within the California Career Technical Education Standards.

    Floriculture and Floral Design

    This course is intended to introduce students to the expectations and possibilities of employment in the agricultural floral industry. Students will learn the taxonomy of standard plants and flowers used in floral design; they will learn to identify and design with these plants and flowers for the purpose of producing aesthetically pleasing arrangements. Students will also learn to use tools of the trade including wire, ribbon, adhesives, paints and dyes, floral foams, cutters and assembly tools, etc. They will learn basic economics of the industry, wholesale and retail, budgeting and marketing as they analyze their own work in terms of cost and profit. Students who finish the year will be prepared for entry-level positions in the floral industry. Record-keeping and leadership skills, through activities within the Future Farmers of America organization will also be an integral part of the course. This course is aligned with the California State Standards for Agriculture.

    Introduction to Film & Design

    Introduction to Film and Video Production is a Career Technical Education (CTE) course that integrates Visual and Performing Arts and CTE standards for the Media Arts Production career pathway. Introduction to Film and Video Production is a college-bound course which integrates Visual and Performing Arts along with screenwriting and film study. Video Production is focused on digital media that includes both visual and audio concepts in preparation for a career in the video and film industry. It requires students to answer essential questions via media production units while applying their knowledge and skills with reference to the Common Core reading, writing, listening, and speaking English Language Arts standards. The units and essential questions build students’ understanding of the digital media industry as well as the role and influence of digital media industry on global communications

    Criminal Justice

    The Criminal Justice Course is designed to introduce students to the Criminal Justice System. The student will examine the criminal justice system through the study of laws of evidence, techniques of investigation, report writing and courtroom procedures. Writing skills, oral communication skills, positive attitudes and presentation skills, related to law enforcement is emphasized.
