Dear CVUSD Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I know it may seem like the common phrase we hear is, “This year is going to be the best one yet,” but I honestly believe that we are going to see CVUSD shine as it has never shined before.
The 2022-2023 school year holds several distinguishable firsts for our students. After nearly three-and-a-half years of construction, we are excited to welcome our Cowboys home to the newly reconstructed Chino High School! Generously funded through Measure G, this beautiful two-story configuration offers students a 7,000 square foot library where they can enjoy collaboration spaces designed to enhance small group partnerships, a new performing arts theatre that seats 500 guests to showcase theatrical masterpieces, and congregational venues for large group instruction and development. Administration and staff are excited to share their new surroundings with the community and are hoping to host an open house later this year to showcase all of the amazing facilities and amenities our young Cowboys will enjoy for years to come.
The new Chino High campus will also be home to the District’s groundbreaking Biomedical Science and Technology Academy! To say that staff is excited to welcome incoming freshmen for the program’s inaugural year is an enormous understatement. This revolutionary tuition-free and competitive magnet program combines traditional coursework with cutting edge, specialized classes that allow students to take full advantage of dynamic instruction offered by supportive mentors and knowledgeable faculty. First year BST Academy students will be immersed in a robust course of study intended to peak their interests and guide them toward selecting one of two cutting-edge branches of study: Biomedical Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security. The application process for next year’s freshmen will begin October 18, 2022. To learn more about this fantastic program and how your student can become part of a growing legacy, please complete the BST Interest Form at https://bit.ly/bstinterestform2022 or visit www.chino.k12.ca.us/bstacademy.
The staff of Hidden Trails Elementary School is proud to host the District’s first Mandarin Dual Language Immersion Program on its campus this year! Welcoming the first Kindergarten students to the program, the Mandarin DLI curriculum has been designed to certify students become academically successful, bilingual, biliterate, and culturally diverse. Thank you to everyone who labored to bring this fantastic program to fruition.
Continuing its mission to support student well-being and to provide a safe environment where all students flourish and feel empowered to make the most of their time with us, the District has launched its one-stop-shop web section offering students support with harassment and bullying assistance, social, emotional, and mental health aid, suicide prevention resources, and anonymous crime reporting. Students can easily access the web section from either the homepage of any district or school website, or by visiting https://www.chino.k12.ca.us/Page/51648.
This school year marks the first year that school start times will shift to the state mandated requirement where junior high schools begin class no earlier than 8:00 a.m., and high schools no earlier than 8:30 a.m. While change is difficult, I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone in the CVUSD community for their patience and understanding as the District adopts the following school times:
Elementary Schools: 7:50 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Junior High Schools: 9:12 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
High Schools: 8:35 a.m. – 3:22 p.m.To ease the transition to this new schedule, libraries at the junior high school campuses will open at 8:30 a.m., providing students with a safe place to gather before school begins.
The Chino Valley Unified School District is fortunate to have amazing administrators, educators, and staff that have an undeniable passion for education and our students. I am looking forward to continuing our productive partnership with parents and the community as we support students in fulfilling their limitless potential.
