Townsend Dance Team 2024-2025 Tryout Information

WELCOME RANGERS!!

Thank you for your interest in joining our award-winning dance team. Here is some information that we would like you all to know prior to auditions.

TEAM PURPOSE AND GOALS: 15-30 (depending on how many tryout) dancers uniting as a team to promote school spirit, represent a positive image, have fun, learn to work together, encourage and uplift one another, and compete against other junior high schools.  Kindness and heart are important.   “A DANCER WHO MAKES THE TEAM GREAT IS BETTER THAN A GREAT DANCER!”

EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

*Must maintain a 2.0 the entire dance season

*Must sign a Team contract and Social Media Contract

*Respectful behavior towards teachers, administration, fellow students, coaches and advisor.

*Must follow school rules at all times. Violation of academic, gum, dress code, and behavior rules can result in dismissal from the team.

COMPETITIONS AND PERFORMANCES: We typically compete in 5 competitions from January to March. Perform at Rallies, Talent Show, and Dance of Hope.  We ask that each dancer be committed to the team and that personal schedules are adjusted to accommodate all team practices and competitions.

COST:  We ask for a contribution of $625 to cover: Choreography, Coaching, Competition entry, Music, Banquet, and Parties throughout the year. Camp, Spirit wear, and costumes are an additional cost.  Song team members contribute an additional amount to cover extra coaching, music, and competitions. Fundraising opportunities will be offered.

TRYOUT PROCESS: Online applications are due Friday, May 3, 2024.  In-person clinics will begin on Monday, May 6th and 7th and auditions will be on Wednesday, May 8th at Townsend Junior High. Each application and audition will be judged based on knowledge of routine, technical abilities, performance, extra skills (not necessary to be on team) Judges will tally scores and choose the top 15-30 dancers or wherever there is a natural break.

Small Jazz: 5-10  tryout    Small Lyrical: 5-10 tryout      Song:  9-25 tryout      Med Hip Hop:   11-17   try out     

Med/Large Jazz:  11- 30 non-tryout      Med/Large Lyrical:  11-30 non-tryout 

All dances that require an additional tryout will take place after the official dance team has been selected and school resumes in the Fall.
