Below are the Steps Followed When the School is Informed
of a Positive COVID Case
- School is informed of a positive student case
- Establish a tentative return date for the student
- Conduct contact tracing to determine which individuals meet the criteria for close contact (within 6 feet for an accumulation of 15 minutes or more in a 24 hour period)
- The school nurse will contact the parent to clear the student for return to school (student must not return until cleared by the school nurse)
- School sends the appropriate letter to parent and appropriate letter to school community
- Students identified as Close Contact (Unvaccinated and Masked)
- Establish a tentative return date based on the type of 10-day quarantine selected by the parent
- Option 1: Full 10 day quarantine at home (quarantine ends after Day 10 from the date of the last exposure without testing)
- Option 2: Modified 10-day quarantine - Student remains in school under the following conditions:
- are asymptomatic;
- continue to appropriately mask, as required;
- testing at least twice weekly and should occur 3 days apart during the 10-day quarantine (PCR test for SARS-CoV-2); AND
- continue to quarantine for all extracurricular activities at school, including sports, and activities within the community setting
- If parent does not want the modified quarantine then the student must complete the full 10-day quarantine at home.
- The school nurse will contact the parent to clear the student for return to school (student must not return until cleared by the school nurse)
- School sends the appropriate letter to parent
- Students identified as Close Contact (Unvaccinated and Unmasked)
- Establish a rentative retrun date based on the type of 10-day quarantine selected by the parent
- Option 1: Full 10-day quarantine at home (quarantine ends after Day 10 from the date of the last exposure without testing)
- Option 2: Modified 10-day quarantine
- Quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic specimen (PCR test for SARS-CoV-2) is collected after Day 5 from the date of last exposure and tests negative
- If parent does not want the modified quarantine then the student must complete the full 10-day quarantine at home.
- The school nurse will contact the parent to clear the student for return to school (student must not return until cleared by the school nurse)
- School sends the appropriate letter to parent
Please note: All students returning to school after the 10-day quarantine period must adhere to the following:
- Continue daily self-monitoring for symptoms through Day 14 from last known exposure; AND
- Follow all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions (e.g., wearing a mask when around others, hand washing, avoiding crowds) through Day 14 from last known exposure
- Students who are fully vaccinated, if not having symptoms, will self-monitor for 14 days.
- Student remains in school
- School sends the appropriate letter to parent

- Choose Test Type: rt-PCR Test CARES ACT
- Testing Hours: 9AM-3:55PM, Monday-Friday
- No symptoms are required for testing
- FREE for all CVUSD employees, CVUSD students, including uninsured, underinsured, undocumented, or homeless
- Test Result Turnaround Time – 2-3 business days, results will be provided directly to individual testing, via email
- Type of Test: PCR, nasal/self-swab with anterior nares
