Hate Violence
Every student has the right to be protected from hate violence. It is the intent of the Board to promote harmonious relationships that enable students to gain a true understanding of the civil rights and social responsibilities of people in our society. Behavior or statements that degrade an individual on the basis of his/her actual or perceived race, ethnicity, immigration status, culture, heritage, gender, sex, sexual orientation, physical/mental attributes, or religious beliefs or practices shall not be tolerated. (BP 5145.9)
Any student who feels that he/she is a target of hate violence shall submit to a teacher or administrator a verbal or written complaint. Complaints of hate violence shall be investigated and resolved in accordance with Site-Level Grievance Procedures specified in AR 5145.7 – Sexual Harassment. A student who has been found to have demonstrated hate violence shall be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with law, Board Policy and Administrative Regulation.
