Home-Based Independent Study
Home-Based is the Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade version of Virtual Program and Independent Study. The AEC provides District-approved standards-based curriculum for elementary school students (TK-6) and junior high school students (7-8) in this program. Curriculum is delivered to students both online and in packet format (written, paper/pencil work) depending on student needs. At the junior high school level, the AEC also offers students the option to study Spanish. All students are assigned a credentialed, District teacher to guide them through their courses of study; teachers work directly with students by providing curriculum, reviewing the student's work, and evaluating students' understanding. Parents provide support and assist in monitoring student progress. Students always remain attached to their home school…Home-Based is an extension of the home school. Students work toward meeting the same academic benchmarks as at the school site and earn grades just as they would at their home school. This program has been highly successful based on our 10 years of experience.
