    AVID Blended Learning Syllabus

    Chino High School

    2020-2021

    Description of Course:

    AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a special program designed to support and assist selected students with their college preparatory curriculum. The program goal is that every student reaches his or her potential, both as a student and as a citizen, that he or she attends a four-year university in preparation for professional success.

    Blended Learning Expectations:

    Students will be following a schedule of alternating one day in class on campus, and one day of asynchronous learning at home.  Students will be responsible for using the teacher website, google classroom, email, and other various sites.  Our work for classroom and non-classroom days will be located on our Google Classroom page. Each student is already a part of the online class and can read announcements, access assignments, see due dates for assignments and submit work there. Please use the links provided on my district webpage to access the class.  We will be turning in all work online to minimize the exchange of paper in the classroom.

    Communication:

    If you email me with concerns or questions, I will respond within 24 hours within the normal work week. My email is located at the top of this page and I will be checking it Monday–Friday several times per day between the hours of 7:30am – 2:30pm. I will be utilizing the Aeries system to record grades for the online assignments, so you can check your Aeries account as usual to keep updated on your grades.

    • Essay Writing/Timed Writing
    • Standardized Test Prep (PSAT, SAT, SAT II, ACT)
    • Personal Statement (for College Admission)
    • Career and College Awareness
    • Education Plan and Portfolio
    • Tutorials
    • Oral presentations, communication and leadership skills are incorporated throughout
