Our Choirs
Mixed Choir is an un-auditioned choir for grades 9-12.
Men’s Ensemble All male auditioned choir for grades 9-12.
Women’s Ensemble All female auditioned choir for grades 9-12.
Vocal Ensemble Mixed voice auditioned choir for grades 9-12.
Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned choir for grades 9-12.
Checklist for Your Auditions
- Audition Application should be filled out completely and submitted
- E-mail a copy of your latest Progress Report
- Make sure your Teacher Recommendation Form has been submitted
- Auditions are held April 15th - 24th
- Call-Backs are April 26th
Audition Information
Prepared Song
Choose a song that you feel shows off your vocal talent. More than likely we will not have you finish the piece, so plan to sing the best 32 bars of your song A Capella. Also, your piece should be prepared and memorized! If you are auditioning for our Vocal Ensemble, please have TWO songs prepared, one of which MUST be in a foreign language. Also, be prepared to sing The National Anthem. Remember you are making an impression in every aspect of the audition, look and act the part.
Vocal Range
Mr. Davis will test your range to make sure you are being placed in a section that is healthy for your voice. This vocal range test will be vocal warm ups ascending and descending. (Think vocal warm ups at the beginning of choir).
Sight-Reading
Students will sight-sing from a list of exercises; both melodic and rhythmic. If you do not feel strong at sight-reading music, have no fear! The ability to read music is not mandatory to audition for choir. While sight-singing, Mr. Davis may ask you to name notes and show Error Detection.
Scales
Students will demonstrate their ability to sing the following scales: Major, Minor, Chromatic, Whole-Tone. Each student will not sing every scale, but will be asked by the director to sing one of the scales.
Pitch memory
Students will sing a succession of notes played by a piano.

Auditions will be from April 15th-April 24th, and our Callbacks will be on April 26th. I will post the list of students I would like to attend the callbacks following my final audition, on my classroom door, my classroom page on the Ayala website, and our choir instagram @AyalaHSChoirs. All students that audition should be prepared to attend the callback.
You will find the audition sign ups below, which covers everything needed to audition for one of our choirs.
All students should be prepared to attend the Call Back once it is announced, as it will give Mr. Davis a better representation of your best singing.
