Profe
  • Dear Parents and Students,

My name is Edgar Hernández, though most students know me as "Profe," short for "Profesor," which means teacher in Spanish. This marks my fourth year at Ayala High School. I am excited to continue contributing to our community by fostering a love for the Spanish language and its rich cultural heritage.

    A Little About Me:

I was born in El Salvador and am a native Spanish speaker. I have lived in the United States for over twenty years, and my passion for language and culture has been a guiding force throughout my life. My interests extend beyond education into travel and the arts, particularly dance.

My educational journey began at UC Santa Barbara, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Sociology. After graduating, I dedicated myself to working with underserved youth and children with autism through various organizations. I then pursued and obtained my teaching credential in Spanish from Loyola Marymount University. Over the years, I have taught students across all age groups, with my deep love for the Spanish language at the core of my work.

My academic pursuits continued as I earned a master’s degree in Spanish Literature, and I am pursuing an Ed. D. In Educational Leadership K-12 from California State University, Fullerton. Go, Titans!

    My Passions and Interests:

In addition to my dedication to education, I have a lifelong passion for the arts. I spent many years as a dancer in Mexican Folklórico, performing with several esteemed companies throughout Southern California. My love for exploring new cultures has taken me to Spain, Italy, England, France, Mexico, and many Central American countries. Soon, I will travel to Thailand and Vietnam to immerse myself in their languages and cultures.

Además, I enjoy working out, running, and spending time with my partner and dog at the beach on the weekends. These activities help me to stay positive and energized to support all students.

    My Teaching Philosophy:

I firmly believe that every student has the potential to excel in learning, and success is achieved through a collaborative effort and commitment to the process. I am dedicated to providing the best possible learning experience for my students by designing courses that are engaging, challenging, and accessible. I look forward to working closely with you to support your child's success in my class.

For more details about the course, please refer to the syllabus that your child has received. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me, and I will respond as promptly as possible.

I am eager to get to know each of my students and embark on this learning journey together.

    Best regards,

    ¡Muchas Gracias!

    Profe Hernández
