DRAWING & PAINTING
Welcome to Drawing and Painting Class. This Year we will be covering a wide range of drawing approaches. This includes drawing from observation, working with invented or nonobjective forms, the effective use of light and shade, line quality, surface manipulation, composition, various spatial systems and expressive mark making with various materials. Materials used include graphite, charcoal, ink, pastel, colored pencils, watercolor, tempura, and acrylic. They key this year is to constantly strive towards the goal of mastering various media and techniques while also discovering your own specific visual vocabulary that you utilize to create original work.
You will need an 8 1/2" x11" or 9" x 12" sketchbook for this class with a minimum of 75pages. It should either be spiral bound or hard bound. Do notpurchase a sketchbook that is a peel away type with glue binding it at the top.These will fall apart since all sketchbooks stay within the classroom and arestored together. Also this is not required but can be very useful. You should buy a set of drawing pencils. These sets range anywhere from 4 to 12 pencils that already provide you a various range of shades from dark to light. You will find them labeled with numbers like 2H, H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, etc.
