• Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can my student do sports / band and be in ACES?

Yes, but keep in mind that ACES has a demanding schedule so, like with all things, they will have to keep balanced.  That being said – the best schools want smart AND athletic leaders.

Q: I’m not sure my student can handle the AP load, do they have to take all the AP classes?

The Computer Science pathway has 2 required AP classes: AP CSP and AP CSA. Other AP courses are optional. Consider that a top student has taken 10-13 AP courses at graduation.

Q: Can my student also do 4 years of language?

Yes, the schedule is designed with this in mind. Keep in mind that students may take summer courses to fit more classes but this is not required.

Q: My student does not meet Math requirements what do I do?

Computer Science and Engineering require strong math skills, but for students with a passion for these subjects, there are ways to catch up. See your counselor for help.

Q: Can I join ACES as a sophomore?

Definitely! As a sophomore, you will still have sufficient time to develop a thorough understanding of computer science and engineering. See the information below on how to sign up.

Q: Can I earn cords or stoles for graduation?

Yes, students can earn cords and stoles that will be awarded during their senior year. To receive a stole, students must participate at least 3 years in ACES, complete the course pathway and have a 3.5+ cumulative GPA in their senior year. (Students will be responsible for purchasing their own stoles through the PLTW website- see instructor for details) To receive a cord, students must participate at least 3 years in ACES, complete the course pathway and have a 3.0+ cumulative GPA in their senior year.
