Six CVUSD seniors have chance at $32 million in scholarship contest

  • Six Chino Valley Unified School District high school seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, based on their scores as juniors on the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The students are Ayala High students Soohong Kim, Joshua Rodriguez, Vigneshwar Senthilkumar, and Reeya Shah; and Chino Hills High students Maham Hasib, and Rashi Jeeda.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists – about 16,000 out of the 1.6 million juniors that took the test – represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. It includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

About 15,000 seniors are expected to advance to the finalist level, and in February, they will be notified of this designation.
