Chino Hills High Eagle Scout Gives Back to His Elementary School

  • Congratulations to Chino Hills High School Junior Zachary McDannell for recently completing his Eagle Scout Project at  Glenmeade, his former elementary school.  Zachary raised $1,900 to refurbish the existing garden area on Glenmeade’s lower playground.  (Link to full story at this point.) He worked with his former 4th grade teacher, Vivi Lane, and more than 80 volunteers to improve the area.  The refurbished garden area will have an area for each grade level and be maintained by Glenmeade’s Garden Club. Zachary is currently a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 214 in Chino Hills.

    Zachary’s project included:

    • Refurbishing eight irrigated raised garden beds for each grade level
    • Covering pathways with black weed barrier tarps and covered in 15 yards of pea gravel
    • Installing chicken wire at the bottom of the chain link fence as a bunny guard
    • Sanding and refinishing garden beds
    • Donating a mobile teaching table for classroom gardening activities
