DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JAN. 15, 2018! Nominations sought for 2017 Richard Gird Educational Hall of Fame inductees

  • The nomination period has opened for Chino Valley Unified Valley School District’s annual Richard Gird Educational Hall of Fame that honors alumni, former employees, and organizations or individuals that have significantly helped the district.

    Nominations for 2017 are due by Monday, Jan. 15, 2018.

    Alumni are eligible for nomination 10 years after graduating from a CVUSD school. A former employee becomes eligible for the nomination five years after retiring or departing from the District.

    The three categories of Hall of Fame winners will be honored at the Chino Valley Unified School District 2017-2018 Employee Retirement and Recognition Reception/Richard Gird Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, to be held 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 22 at the Chaffey College-Chino Community Center.

    The Hall of Fame is located in the main lobby of the District Office in Chino. It features a large bust of Chino founder Richard Gird, murals depicting the school district’s early history, and photos and short biographies of Hall of Fame inductees. 

    Mr. Gird and his wife Nellie were the first inductees to the Hall of Fame in 2014. The Girds were responsible for establishing the area’s first schools in the late 1880s, and both served on the school board in the 1890s. 

    Hall of Fame inductees in 2016 were professional baseball player and coach Chad Cordero, a Don Lugo High alumni; former Ramona Junior High noon ground supervisor Kay Hallmark (employee inductee); and the late Chino High basketball coach Frank Elder (Distinguished Service inductee).
