Chino Valley Unified School District schools salute local military veterans

  • Eagle Canyon Elementary School‘s Safe School Ambassadors honored 15 United States military veterans at a ceremony Nov. 10.

All of the veterans were related to a student or teacher at the Chino Hills school.

The Eagle Canyon ceremony began with The National Anthem, sung by former Eagle Canyon student Marissa Valenzuela. The veterans walked a red carpet as they were cheered by students and staff, waving American flags, and dressed in red, white, and blue clothing. Each class wrote thank you letters, which were read to the veterans at the ceremony. The morning was concluded by a reception hosted by the Eagle Canyon PTA.

Several other Chino Valley Unified School District schools also honored veterans in early November.

Wickman Elementary School created a “red brick” memorial wall with paper bricks adorned with photos or drawings of veterans. The Chino Hills school also collected pairs of new white socks to be donated to a veterans’ hospital.

Oak Ridge Elementary School continued its long-running tradition of honoring veterans at a reception and ceremony at the Chino Hills campus. Toiletries were also collected to donate to the Bob Hope USO program for soldiers returning home through local airports.
