COURSE DESCRIPTION
Intro to Digital Media is a course that introduces students to a broad spectrum of computer applications. Students are exposed to basic design, animation, digital imaging, digital video, digital art, digital music and desktop publishing current industry standards. This course works to help students learn the basic competencies necessary to use and manipulate images/sound and information easily. This course is aligned to the California Career and Technical Education Standards: Art and Media Pathway.
COURSE GOALSStudents will gain a basic familiarity and understanding of ways to create projects in multiple print and visual media.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
All students are expected:
- To take part in the class work each day, including assignments and keyboarding practice.
- To complete all assignments on time and according to directions.
- To apply the principles of good design when creating professional looking projects.
- To show proficiency by demonstrating application and hardware mastery.
STUDENT OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate:
1. Proficiency in creating visual presentations and printable projects.
2. Basic understanding video production, animation, digital photo correction, vector art and web creation.
3. Proficiency in creating and presenting their work and projects.
4. Competency in using complex software to create print and visual media.
5. Appreciation and understanding of modern business technologies.
DESIGN AND RIGOR
This course is primarily a project and content based where students will acquire basic skills in presenting information in a variety of formats, and create projects in a visual format.
GRADING CRITERIA
Grading is primarily determined by the quality of performance that a student is able to accomplish based on required criteria and elements for each project.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is provided through activities, knowledge and demonstration of application mastery, portfolio assessment via an electronic collection of documents, and projects. (70% Projects/Performance/Portfolio and 30% Classwork)
