UPDATE TO THE CVUSD COMMUNITY ON
NOVEL CORONAVIRUS
FEBRUARY 4, 2020Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) continues to work closely with and obtain guidance from local, state and federal public health agencies to monitor the latest updates regarding the Novel Coronavirus and ensure the well being of students and staff. Students are required to stay home if they are ill with fever (100 degrees) and may return to school after being free from fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
In keeping with standard best practices, CVUSD schools have continued to encourage the following healthy habits among students and staff:
- Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with soap and water (e.g. before and after eating, after restroom use, coughing or sneezing)
- Cover mouth with elbow or tissue when coughing
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
- Clean surfaces regularly
While health agencies may issue mandatory quarantines of individuals, CVUSD does not have the authority or responsibility to mandate or enforce quarantining of our students. CVUSD’s mission is to educate students, which includes sharing accurate information regarding the Novel Coronavirus and sharing regular updates from health agency experts.
The Center for Disease Control has requested that, starting February 3, 2020, people returning from travel to mainland China practice “social distancing” (staying home away from public places including school) in cooperation with the local San Bernardino Public Health Department. CVUSD respects the confidentiality of our students and will never share personal information of students with the public. Students who recently returned from China and are practicing social distancing will receive support from our schools and CVUSD to facilitate continued learning at home.
We would like to remind everyone that according to the CA Department of Public Health, the threat to the general public for contracting Novel Coronavirus remains low. We understand that this unprecedented situation may be stressful, but we encourage sensitivity in actions and words so as to avoid marginalization of segments of our community. Thank you for your partnership in helping to ensure that our students remain healthy and continue to learn in a safe and welcoming environment.
