January 2, 2022
Hello CVUSD Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
Happy New Year! I hope that you are enjoying your winter break and taking this opportunity to recharge as we prepare for the second half of our school year.
As students and staff return to the classroom on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, our priority remains keeping everyone safe and maintaining a healthy environment. Before break began, health officials forecasted an increase in COVID-19 transmissions, especially amid the contagious Omnicron variant. Students and staff are asked to remain at home if they are experiencing COVID-related symptoms or are unvaccinated and have recently been in close contact with an individual who has tested COVID positive.
During an announcement on December 22, 2021, Governor Newsom shared that the state of California is increasing the availability of at-home COVID-19 tests so K-12 students can test as they return to school from winter break. I’d like to clarify a few things regarding the governor’s announcement:- While the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) highly recommends that students test prior to returning to school, there is no associated state-wide requirement to test or provide a negative test result prior to returning to campus. At-home test kits are an added layer of protection to mitigate an outbreak among students and staff to keep everyone in the classroom for in-person instruction.
- At-home tests will not be available to students before they return to campus on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. While the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) has requested the fulfillment of testing kits on behalf of districts and charter schools within San Bernardino County, SBCSS does not expect the kits to arrive from CDPH by the end of the week.
- Once received, SBCSS will distribute kits to Chino Valley USD and neighboring San Bernardino County districts.
- Test kits are free for all K-12 students and will be distributed as quickly as possible.
I’m looking forward to seeing students and staff return from break and will share additional information of when test kits are available for pick up, where families can pick up their kits, and how to share results when completing a test.
Thank you for your continued support and cheers to a prosperous new year!
Sincerely,
Norm Enfield, Ed.D.
Superintendent
