• UPDATE TO THE CVUSD COMMUNITY REGARDING
    SCHOOL CLOSURES DUE TO
    NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
    AUGUST 18, 2020

    Dear CVUSD Parents and Guardians:

I hope your first week back to school on a distance learning model went well and that you and your family have found an encouraging new routine in this new learning landscape. As you are aware, CVUSD began the school year on a districtwide distance learning model because of a mandate by California Governor Gavin Newsom. The Governor’s mandate required schools to open on a distance learning model if they were located within a county that is on the California Watch List of counties that are being monitored for worsening COVID-19 trends. Additionally, schools are not allowed to resume with in-person learning until the county in which they are located is removed from the California Watch List for 14 consecutive days.

San Bernardino County continues to be on the State of California Watch List. Last month, prior to Governor Newsom’s mandate, I indicated in a letter to you that the CVUSD Blended Learning Program would begin on August 31, 2020. Because of the subsequent mandates from the state, CVUSD will continue with a distance learning model until San Bernardino County meets the state requirements that will allow our schools to open for in-person learning.

In conversation with County Public Health Officials last Thursday, I learned that the data that determines a County’s placement on the California Watch List is trending downwards, which is positive news for schools seeking to reopen to in-person learning. However, while our District is prepared to make the shift to an in-person Blended Learning Program, we cannot foresee when that time will be. Rest assured that when the time comes to reopen schools to in-person learning, you will receive as much notice as possible. I appreciate your patience with the unpredictable COVID-19 developments and statistics in our area, and the consequential guidance and mandates from our local, state and national leaders.

I understand that while many families have had an easy transition to distance learning, there are others who may have experienced issues with this new educational environment. I want to remind you that your teachers, administrators and District staff are just a phone call or email away. You can access school websites and contact information from our District website at https://www.chino.k12.ca.us/

Thank you again for your continued partnership in our students’ education. I am certain that together we will be able to provide them with a successful school year.

    Sincerely,

    Norm Enfield, Ed.D.
    Superintendent
