UPDATE TO THE CVUSD COMMUNITY REGARDING
NEXT STEPS DURING SCHOOL CLOSURES DUE TO
    NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
    MARCH 19, 2020

    Dear CVUSD Parents and Guardians:

I want to update you on the state of our school closures due to COVID-19. As you may have seen on the news, San Bernardino cases of COVID-19 have increased from the first positive case this past weekend to five positive cases today, three days later. Across California, the 870 confirmed cases today is double what it was on Monday. CA Governor Gavin Newsom, in a press conference this past weekend, speculated that schools in the state may possibly be closed for the rest of this school year.

While this information is undoubtedly overwhelming, I and my staff continue to be in contact with public health officials and communicate with surrounding school districts and superintendents. After much thought, I have decided to extend the closure of CVUSD schools to Friday, May 1, 2020.

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, along with the San Bernardino County Superintendent’s Office, supports Chino Valley Unified School District and all districts throughout our County, to extend all school closures through at least Friday, May 1, 2020.

I believe this decision is in the best interest of our students, staff and community as we address the challenges of this pandemic together.

I want to share this news with you as soon as possible to help you and our community plan and prepare for this extended closure.

The closure schedule for CVUSD is as follows:

March 16-March 19: Extended Spring Break.

    March 20-March 27: Spring Break.

March 30-May 1: Schools closed to students. Distance Learning/Education takes place.

More information will be provided to you with details of our continued meal service to students throughout school closures; online extended learning plans and distance learning and our implementation plan for providing technology to students who do not have it. Please check your email tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this together.

     Sincerely,

    Norm Enfield, Ed.D.
    Superintendent
