UPDATE TO COMMUNITY ON
NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
MARCH 11, 2020Dear CVUSD community:
As part of our School District’s thorough preparations for any possible local COVID-19 outbreak, I have requested that the CVUSD Board of Education declare a state of emergency related to the COVID-19 virus at their next Board meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2020. On March 4, 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19. On March 10, 2020, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
While there are no positive cases of COVID-19 in our District or in San Bernardino County, a state of emergency declaration will allow CVUSD to be more streamlined and efficient in our preparations and response.
A state of emergency resolution will allow me, as Superintendent, to act efficiently to take any and all actions necessary to ensure the health and safety of students and staff and to ensure that public education continues for our students. The resolution will authorize me to take actions that include: closing schools and/or district if necessary; entering into contracts without obtaining public bids or Board approval; reallocating financial resources for things such as education for our students, and cleaning/disinfecting schools.
My staff and I have already developed comprehensive response plans for various scenarios in the event COVID-19 reaches our community. Our response plans include seamless continuation of educational instruction; steps for cleaning, disinfecting and restoration of schools and facilities; and preservation of critical school district services. CVUSD continues to promote best practices for healthy hygiene in our schools and to the community, as well as increase cleaning/disinfecting of schools and facilities.
I will continue to communicate with you on a regular basis regarding COVID-19. Please visit our COVID-19 District website section for updates and information at https://www.chino.k12.ca.us/Page/26942
Sincerely,
Norm Enfield, Ed.D. Superintendent
